What fun, loved driving through this tunnel with its windows out onto the changing scenery.
My kids loved driving through the tunnel. We normally during high season wouldn't have been able to drive through except that it was our exit to the Grand Canyon route. They say on the radio station that if your car is over 7 feet tall that you might have to pay for an escort. through the tunnel. We have a... More
Cool tunnel. Make sure and read literature about vehicle size restrictions for this tunnel. Most RV's will have to pay special fee to be escorted through since they have to close traffic from opposite direction.
and what choice do you have since the road goes right through it???But park and go up the Canyon View Trail for the view of a life time.
We drove up out of Zion Canyon through the tunnel early one morning on our way to Bryce Canyon. The views were amazing and I would advise you to take this drive even if you have to turn around and return to Zion after you have driven 10 miles or so on the other side of the tunnel. The climb... More
What can one say, except the engineers did an awesome job making this tunnel a reality!
Definitely make this route your entrance or exit in the park. The road is very scenic and how they built the tunnel is amazing. Trip through is about 10 minutes depending on traffic, as it is only one direction at a time, then turn around and come back. Washrooms, parking, observation point are located at eastern end of the tunnel.
about 1.5 miles long, there is no internal lighting, except for the occasional 'window' hewn through the rock. Take it slow through. Stunning views when entering the switchbacks in the canyon, with a few pull-overs to admire the view
This must be where the scenes from the movie 'Cars' were based on. The view from the cut-outs in the tunnel were awesome.
I remember the first time I went through this tunnel, over a decade ago. It was a full moon, and it colored all the red rock of Zion National Park a beautiful pink color. Seeing the pink colored rock through the ventilation windows of the tunnel was definitely a memory I'll treasure. I now live in the area, and I... More
