Definitely worth taking the short taxi ride through the road tunnel from Old Havana to visit this fort. See if you can visit the modern day port operations room where the manager/operator will talk you through his daily job.

Didn't catch the canon firing at night cos there always seemed to be something to do in Havana, but it was a nice (albeit hot) place to sit and people-watch or just look out into the waters, harbour and the lighthouse. Bring sunscreen if you intend to hang around. Our drive tour took us close, but not close enough and...

At night .......... .......... go back to the sixteenth century When to close the walls, fired the cannon from the fortress at 9 pm, and revive it is an unforgettable experience ....

This is a must visit for Habana and where a hat it is is a sunny day as there is NO shade. Some excellent nearby restaurante to be sampled after the visit.
Every night the cannon is fired signaling the 1700s tradition of letting the people know the city gates were closing. It is re-enacted every night. The cannon fires at 9 PM but go early to check out the other displays, the chapel, Che's office and lots of shopping.
The view was excellent and the firing of the cannon was interesting and entertaining. This is a must see attraction.
Some parts under construction and inaccessible. Very nice views of the castle and the city of old Havana. Definitely worth the visit. Small entry fee.
We didn't check opening hours so part of it was closed but it was lovely for a walk round at night.
There's restaurants up there if you have time - we didn't but they looked lovely.
We also missed lots of the castle and area - didn't have a map, not sure if there was one but we missed Castro's...

Really nice place to visit, across the harbour. Super views of Havana. There are some bars and restaurants there so you could visit for sunset.
