this was included in our tour to the pyramids and was well worth a visit. Huge numbers of people flock to this shrine where the pope blessed the people on his trip to Mexico.

The tilma ( cape worn by Aztec Indians at the time) of Juan Diego which contains the image of the Blessed Virgin Mary is enshrined in the Basilica. The symbolism was directed to Juan Diego and the Aztecs in 1531. Seven million people visit the every year. A visit is a must for Roman Catholic and other Christian denominations.

Basilica de Guadalupe Church is one of the sacred site which is famous all over the world. We were very fulfilled when we reached this location. There are at least 4-5 churches in this site. We attend the mass on a Saturday afternoon and it was very solemn. I saw the miraculous image of the Virgin Mary located above the... More

My wife and I came on pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City in thanksgiving for twenty five years of a very happy marriage. It was well worth the journey from our home in Ireland. We stayed in the centre of Mexico City (Paseo de la Reforma) and we were able to catch the local... More

In my half dozen trips to DF, I had never ventured up to visit the Basílica de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe. By subway, it's less than 30 minutes from the Zocalo. At the metro stop La Villa-Basílica one is just a few steps away from the main path toward the basilica complex. Catholic or not, it's a short pilgrimage worth... More

Not the big deal that Catholics make of it, but still worth a stop to see. There are a lot of past, present, legend, and fact all in one large site.

The Basilica of Guadalupe is one of the most important places for Mexicans and the second most visited Catholic sanctuary in the world after the Vatican in Rome. (Most visited Marian Sanctuary of the world with an avg. of 18 or 19 million visitors a year) It is a huge temple with a very interesting architecture (has no columns to... More

I was prepared not to like the new, modern Basilica, but I was very impressed with the innovativeness of the architecture, and the nifty way they allow thousands to view the "original" image of the virgin from the underground passageway without disturbing whatever is going on in the sanctuary.
