Beautiful with 45000 books from the 16th 17th and 18 th. Ask for David to guide you around. You will find this behind the Cathedral in the Palacio de la Cultura.

You will be amazed by the collection and the setting. This library holds thousands of priceless books on all subjects. It is quite a beautiful space loaded with treasures from centuries past. Well worth a visit, and it's just behind the Cathedral.

Cooler than it sounds like it will be, though why they do not allow you to take photos is beyond me. It seems visitors are tolerated, not encouraged, so don't expect to be welcomed or given any information. Still, it is amazing to walk around and ponder the changes that have taken place in the way information is exchanged.

Not as big as I expected but certainly worth a visit. We paid 35 pesos to get in not sure if it was worth that!

An incredible old library, dating back to the 17th Century, with books in it that are even older (1470's!). While the collection was started in the 1600's the shelves and furniture were built in the 1700's and are very well taken care of. It was astounding seeing all of these ancient volumes, including texts by Isaac Newton that were on... More

A must for book lovers, at least. It is pretty awesome to be in a library that's about 500 years old. It doesn't take long to visit and it's right in the center of town so it should not be missed.

The only preserved ancient library of ll the American continent, really deserves a visit. With only minor reforms (all of them introduced very long ago) this beautiful place remembers the library of Salamanca University, taken as model for it.

What can I say? It was incredibly moving to see 450 year old books. I only wish I could have turned a few pages. The long sense of history was evident as we wondered beside and below the stacks of the oldest library I've been in. A short visit because the library was closing but then we enjoyed other exhibits... More

One goes to look at one room really. But gives a glimpse a times long past. Very impressive with all its old books, tables and chairs. Definitely worth the visit
