Wow! Early May and the lake was 97% frozen but melted on the edges and it was amazingly clear. We are so glad we left the Glacier National Park early and traveled to Banff National Park. The sights and accommodations are so much better in this area that we will never return to glacier and are planning a longer visit to this park. Very highly recommended.

Lake Louise is heavenly blue, and everyone should visit here. Stayed at the Rocky Mountain Lodge and loved it. Ate dinner at the Fairmont, expensive but good. The lake itself is gorgeous. However, it is a cony Island atmosphere due to the large amount of people. There is a magnificent hotel right on the lake and canoes are available for rent. I, personally, do not like the crowds and Lake Moraine is a much better choice.
