Love downtown Victoria but it's not what it use to be. How many "Canada 'eh'" shirt and trinket stores can there be on one block! Also sad to see Burger King invading! I miss the unique local shops like the Christmas store! It would be nice to see some of the stores brought back to the area and cut back... More

Just the view is so well put together with the Parliament Buildings on one side and the lovely Empress Hotel and harbour are so beautiful.

We strolled along Government Street in the Downtown area, and had a pleasant time. The streets are clean, the people are kind, and the shops are plenty. There is so much to see and do, but I am told that it's even more active in the summer months, when street vendors take over! I look forward to coming back this... More

Walk along the inner harbour, visit with local artists, and pick up a great souvenir of your visit. The upper level, Government Street itself, has an Olde Englilsh flavour. Beautiful cashmere sweaters, Irish linens, Rogers chocolates, and easy walking from many downtown hotels. A must-do when in Victoria!

Have worked downtown for the last 6 years, and wouldn't trade it for the world! Every time of year government street is a great stroll. The cobbled sidewalks, large potted trees with lights at night, and the old style lamp posts are just the start. All the tiny boutique stores on and around government street make it a must visit... There's always something to do downtown and this is probably one of the most beautiful spots I've ever seen. The harbour is stunningly beautiful and all Victorians are proud, proud, proud to call this home.

empty stores, 7-11, burger king, it's lost its way. Gov't. St. is not what Victoria is about. Explore the beaches, lakes, parks among the residential and rural areas. I'm born and raised and still live in Victoria.

Still a pleasant walk up from the Empress Hotel to the centre of Victoria but some of the old established shops have gone, replaced by purveyors of tourist tat. Some of the good stores remain (Munro's Books, Murchie's Tea and Coffee, Roger's Chocolates, W.andJ. Wilson's Clothiers and others) but the former charm is fading.
