Great Northwestern native peoples collection of totem poles, masks, and everyday items. Evocative lighting and staging definitely a cut above average.
We loved this museum and actually visited it twice because there was so much to see! Highlights: The First Peoples' exhibit on the 3rd floor has excellent displays on history, tools, masks, and totem posts made by all the different First Nations tribes. It also includes excellent history on the impact of the Europeans and British on their lives, territories... More
The museum displays a very nice exhibition on the history of BC and also some real interesting exhibitions on first people. A must see for everyone visiting Victoria!
I've visited this museum numerous times and always enjoyed it. There is an IMAX theatre there as well as exhibits which change several times a year. My favorite, however, is the third floor recreation of a street in Victoria from the 1890s or so. So well done! Be sure to visit when you're in town.
Excellent exhibits in July 2012 on First Nations people with artifacts dating back 9,000 years, as well as photos of Queen Elizabeth II on her 60th jubilee.
