Lots to first nations history and art, early days of Campbell River, and a fabulous display of why Campbell river was known as the "Salmon Capital of the World." This museum is a smaller version of the Royal Victoria Museum and very worth a visit to explore the history of the Campbell River area. The exhibits are first class and must be a wonderful resource for the schools in the area. We really enjoyed our visit!!
This museum has ended up with some of the older carvings I have mostly only seen in pictures. The modern carvings are also exquisite. The pre-contact historical parts are quite good too. It's a great introduction tot the area.
It tells the story of what Campbell River and surounding area was like. By showing eg. an old log cabin, old logging truks ,steam doney what a bunk house was like. Good representaion of the first nations with maskes and a story a fishing vilage and a theater that shows the blowing up of Ripal Rock
the Museum has a great part of First Nation manufacts, with legends and history; then the birth of the city by the pionieers, the grow of the economy and the society, very interesting. Very good reconstruction of ancient life and sites, nice bookshop and kind employees. Recommended the visit!
The Museum gives a good overview of the history of Campbell River and would be a good place to spend an hour or more with children. There is a small gift shop with some local items in it and a selection of books.
