Beautiful grounds - Abbey is majestic - lots of interesting history in fabulous setting. Would highly recommend a visit - we absolutely loved it
I have lived all my life in this part of the World and i never knew this Abbey existed. As a new member of Groupon i bought my first voucher to visit this place, which my Husband and I did this Saturday. Although the Abbey was fairly easy to find trying to park was not. We drove around the block... More
The Abbey reopened toward the end on summer 2013 following an extensive refurbishment and the result is an excellent attraction on the history of the Abbey and the immediate area. With the large amount of art and the historical content this maybe isn't something for very young children as they may become a little bored but would suggest that visitors... More
Amazing work has been done to restore and update this local 800 yr old attraction. Lots and lots of interactive displays inside over 4 floors. Telling the whole history from 1100 ish upto the present day - history through the 100 Years War, Dissolution of the Monasteries, Armada...etc A lot of paintings - some wonderful huge watercolours dating from the... Everything I love and eveything one could want. Ruins, abbey, Monks, the gardens to die for. the display of Dahlias the best ever seen, wonderful museum and great displays, in fact we could have spent even longer in there. a great price too. £6.00 wonderful, lovely staff too
Even though history really isn't my thing, I really enjoyed my quick (far too quick) visit to Torre Abbey while seeing an old school friend. It's in the process of renovation, but saying that the main buildings are finish to a very high standard, and its filled with interesting and unusual exhibits. I especially liked the clever use of media... More
pretty average historic monument.Although if you are studying this era then worth visiting. It was wet when we were here so possibly could have seen it in a better light during the summer months.
The abbey ruins are interesting, but there is a lot more to see here. Lots of paintings in variety of styles and historic multi-media that was entertaining. Gardens and greenhouse were full of fascinating plants.
To my mind, this is THE best thing in Torquay. The abbey ruins, gardens and glasshouses are a wonderful way to spend an afternoon. I found it all even better than the website photos were able to show and loved every minute here! Torquay city council have done a great job of renovating the Cary family country house too. Magnificent... More
