This is a real must of a visit if you are interested in medieval history. The roof structure in the chapel is world class and was made in the 13th by ship wrights. Most of it is the original wood. The voluntary helpers are very friendly, full of knowledge and entry was £1.

For a small fee you can have a look round this interesting hospital which dates from the pilgrims visiting Canterbury after Becket's murder. As previously said the word hospital comes from hospitality. Maximum of 12 pilgrims could sleep overnight and be fed and watered. Intention was to clean up the streets of Canterbury (nothing changes!).

This is not to be missed - the history is well told on story boards with additional photos and relics. Anne B. Falmouth

So much history here, and possible resting place for King Henry ll on his way to Canterbury Cathedral following Beckett's murder there. Lovely building and the steps down at the entrance show how much the town has become built up over the years. Don't miss the Ducking Stool on the River Stour opposite!

Only a small building but very interesting nonetheless, where both pilgrims could stay for 1 night only, but was also a hospital for lepers and other poorly people. It had a good ambience about it, and although it took only 10-15 mins to complete the visit, glad I did. I was also very interested in the painting dating back to... More

Very interesting background to the Pilgrims who travelled to Canterbury. The staff on duty very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. Well worth a visit. Situated right in the heart of the town centre. Recommended

An amazing survival right in the heart of the city. It's only small but the explanation boards are great and it's a fasinating half an hour. It's sobering to think that it's still functioning in pretty much its original role after 7 centuries.

The Eastbridge hospital is an absolute gem of history on Canterbury's high street. It sits on the Kings Bridge, near to the city's West Gate. It only costs two pounds to go in, and takes about half an hour to look around. There are lots of interesting little facts written that you can read as you walk around. The guides... More
