Loved it!!!! Food bit expensive but great experience. Brought back lots of memories. Trains in really wonderful condition. Explainers were all very knowledgable and enthusiastic.

You do not have to be a Trainspotter to be entertained here. Fantastic museum with something to see for everyone. We particularly enjoyed the Royal Trains and the Bullet Train is awesome
The museum was remarkably quiet when I visited (May 10th 2013).I believe that guided tours were possible but we just wandered around. You were able to spend as much time as you liked with each exhibit. It was noted that many visitors were German - so the awareness of the museum is International. Nothing negative to say.
exceellent value, because its FREE. you will love this place. so much to see. all they ask is that you leave a small donation. you wont be disappointed, i promise you.
Excellent place to visit, not just for Train buffs. Even the Wife enjoyed it. She loved looking at the Royal carriages. It is also very educational and I still can't beleive that it is free to get in.
I'm no train buff but this is a great free attraction (donations gratefully received) for all ages.
Only a 15 minute walk from the city centre. Especially good on a rainy day which there are many in Yorkshire!
Great to see the Mallard and especially the Flying Scotsman although she isn't looking her best at the moment.

Really liked the walk along the exhibition of different carriages which is a real insight into social history, see how royalty, first class and third class have travelled over the years.
Unlike many museums this one allows you to walk through their archive of their old materials they cannot display but don’t usually get shown to the public. In addition...

It's a great museum and manages to keep the interest of those who are not particularly interested in engineering. Well worth a visit. Allow a minimum of two hours, train buffs will take longer!
But quite good all the same. Best for people who are really interested in trains. It's free, although a donation is asked for but this is what you choose to give, so it would be a great way of keeping the kids entertained cheaply for a couple of hours or so!
I have visited this museum a number of times in the past but it is a long time since my last visit. It has expanded and there are a number of new exhibits. There is no charge but you are invited to make donation to a charity, which we did.
