A native of Edinburgh, James will provide an historical account of each attraction visited. His goal is to help you get the best from your camera and show you how to compose professional shots. If your camera has the ability to shoot in manual mode, James is confident that after four hours with him, you will never go back to any of the programmable modes ever again. James shows you how to take each photograph and guarantees that each participant will take home professional looking images that can be displayed and enjoyed for many years to come. The tours are aimed at all levels of photographer, from absolute beginner to experienced professional. James does not use confusing jargon, preferring to explain things in a simple to understand manner. James is friendly, polite and encouraging. The tours start at 10am daily (Monday –Friday) and last approximately 4 hours. The cost of the tour is £50 (with a maximum of 10 participants per tour) or a one to one session can be booked for £400. « less

James is a very passionate teacher and has created a very enjoyable and a very well-considered tour. Not only did he demystify the camera settings and make us all more comfortable with our cameras but he is also extremely knowledgeable of Edinburgh and its history which was an added bonus. Also takes in some of the best sights of Edinburgh.... More

James was a great teacher, patient, practical and encouraging and keen to share his knowledge to help amateurs to push their own skills up a notch or two. I found the time spent really valuable and am looking forward to putting my new learning into practice. Highly recommended.

The tour was the highlight of my weekend trip to Edinburgh. James provides excellent photography tipps as well as interesting insights into Edinburgh history. Although I am not a native english speaker and not very experienced in photography I had no problems to follow James' explanations. Going forward I will be much more self confident using the manual mode of... More

Having completed this tour back in Oct 2011, I was keen to set off once again with James and my shiny new DSLR camera. Once again James was very patient and very instructive in the use of manual settings and composing your shot. As an alternative way to view this beautiful city, get some excercise and an insight to the... More

I booked this tour for my partner as a birthday treat due to the fact that we would be in Edinburgh for his birthday and he is a very keen, but albeit amateur, photographer. I had emailed James prior to booking for some information and found him very helpful and quick to respond to correspondence. His website is easy to... More
