Climbing up the old stairwell was amazing. We enjoyed playing the bells. We played Happy Birthday for our daughter for all of Cork to hear. Cool

When we arrived at St. Anne's, we first looked around the sanctuary. It's not one of the more impressive churches we saw on our trip, but there are some beautiful manuscripts and stained glass windows. We climbed up some stairs to the main event, the Bells of Shandon. There's a book with several selections of music to choose from. There...

The churh is really sweet and you can ring the bells of Shandon and climb up past the bell tower to the balcony. Good view of Cork as well. Great fun.
Were there on the heritage weekend, the entry was free. And everybody was allowed to ring the bells - great fun!
It was a little of a hike to get here, but awfully fun to ring the bells in the tower. St. Anne's is not a spectacular site, but the experience of hiking up the tower, ringing the bells, seeing the bells up close and getting a view of the entire city makes it a unique experience.
The church is a matter of metres from the Butter Museum. Went up to play the bells. Unfortunately no New Zealand tunes so had to play Waltziing Matilda. Suggested to the receptionist they get Po kare kare ana, and she wrote it down - so maybe.....
It is said that you haven't visited Cork when you haven't rung he bells of Shandon tower.... Up to the bells is an easy climb, but the final stairs to the panorama balcony requires a certain level of elasticity. The final stairs are very narrow but the view is certainly worth the effort. Highly recommended on brighter days.
The best part was going up to ring the bells! AND you get a SPECTACULAR view of the city from the top of the tower!!
To be clear from the outset, I'm not reviewing religious content here, I visited the church for a Christmas concert. To that end, I found it comfortable (as far as pews can ever be), warm, cosy, old-fashioned in a good way and with a nice acoustic for the singers. It's a lovely building, especally from the outside. Parking's a little...

We didn't have a chance to go inside, but the church was right beside our hotel and we walked around the grounds. Not anywhere near as impressive as St. Fin Barr's Cathedral on the other side of the river, but still worth checking out if in Cork.
