This square was dominated by the New Town Hall (which looked older than the Old Town Hall, but that's another story) which was very pretty and awe inspiring. It was very busy with tourists, especially on a holiday Monday when nothing in Germany is open except for restaurants and museums. The carillon was a bit overrated.

You cant miss marienplatz while in germany!!! Only downside to marienplatz/bavaria are the fact that there arent a lot of money changers (plenty of atm machines though) in the area AND everything except for restaurANts, churches, and beer houses are closed!!! Great atmosphere in the area a must see when in Munchen!also you can see the Rathaus which is beautiful!

The Rathaus is just beautiful, have never seen the glockenspiel play but I bet it's a real experience!

This is a really fun walk from end to end. Many restaurants, beer halls and plenty of shopping. It has the usual street performers, but plenty of history as well.

I have been here a few times over the years and feel that it's worth seeing the buildings, but be aware there are too many tourists and druggies walking around.

Loved the buildings, shops, flower displays, cathedral and fountains. Was impressed with a classical music/opera free performance, and others musical performers along the shopping strip.

liked: a good balance between commercial and historical activities. disliked: nothing is open on Sunday.

Visit the "Cafe" on the square that has a bakery and a shop full of baked goodies - miss the restaurant just up from there - they are not very friendly - we found the restaurant people in general were not pleasant at all!!
