This museum covers German history from its origins to modern times. Growing up Lutheran, the most interesting period to me was the Reformation. I was particularly interested in the info about Martin Luther, seeing the books he wrote, and learning more about the times surrounding his life. I was also fascinated by the old clocks and time pieces on display... More

I'd read a lot of reviews talking about staying here for hours and losing track of time. As much as I love history I really couldn't see that happening to me. Well I was wrong! This museum really is one of the best I've been to. So full of information but so easy to read with an amazing array of... More

Budget a lot of time for this Museum as it contains original artifacts from 1 B.C. through World War II. From ancient royalty, to Martin Luther, to industrialization, it tells Germany's story well.

The German Historical Museum is set in a beautiful building, typically German. Within it there's a permanent exhibition called 'Diversity destroyed' which portrays life in the Third Reich and the tyranny of the Nazi Government. What really stands out however, is the Germans' belief that they were as much victims of national socialism as the rest of the world was,... More

Why don't we have one of these in London. German history through the ages...it was fascinating, beautifully displayed. We wished they had been open to 8pm as with two stops for sustenance (cafe, restaurant excellent food and service) it took us 6hrs to manage history up to 1918..Excellent pacing and very informative. We are already planning another trip just to... More

The museum covers the history of the lands and peoples that eventually became modern day Germany. The World War Two era is more extensively covered at places like the Topography of Terror. The museum reminds us of other German history and achievements by some of its citizens. Lots of information. Important to pace yourself at these museums or else you... More

This museum presents the history of the german people in an absorbing way. We went there for a quick walk-through but ended up spending 6 hours following to timeline from roman times up to modern day. A multimedia display showing the migrations of early european "tribes" was fascinating as was the history of the run-up to the first world war... More

Another place to find out more about the dark side of German history. You cannot fail to be moved by the distress on the faces of all those who suffered so much at the atrocities inflicted on them by the Nazis.
