Aachen deserves a visit for this singualar monument centred around the royal chapel of Charlemagne. Ravenna in a Gernan setting.
Aachen Cathedral is as impressive inside as it is outside. We had to wait until 10.45am to enter as a service was taking place - it was well worth the wait! The city is easy to navigate around on foot and there is plenty to see.
I find it sad that the history of this location seems to mean so little to its current reviewers. This is not just a nice little cathedral. Charlemagne ruled his empire from here, German Kings were crowned here, on Charlemagne's throne, for hundreds of years. Aachen is a special place and is worthy of a visit.

From the outside, it looks bigger than it actually is in the inside. Looks like normal church, but once you're in.. it's just different.. the decoration is very beautiful and neat. It's actually a small church and the church part is only in the middle under the dome. Worth a visit!
Beutiful little old town with narrow streets, nothing special, but very charmant. A half-day program, with the cathedral.
It was noisy and very busy there with tourists ignoring the signs to be silent, but some nice art works and the shape inside is quite original, a bit like a hexagon.
Don't miss out on this Cathedral. Visiting Aachen was not in my plans but once there it was obvious we were gonna visit the Aachen Cathedral. Outside it does not look anything special compared to the one in Cologne but inside it was much more impressive. If you want to take photos from the inside you must pay a small...

It looks fantastic from the outside but is absolutely stunning inside with its gilt designs and mosaics.
This is a very nice cathederal where they put in a lot of work to keep it nice. It's worth visiting. Parking is easy and not too expensive.
