Besides it's one of the masterpieces of the world, it contains a nice collection of ElGreco paintings.

This cathedral goes beyond being a church.....it begins to feel like a city contained within a structure. The carvings are enormous and very lovely. You must look up as most of the beauty is there. This place is over the top in massiveness and ornate decor.

We picked up our audio guide from the shop opposite and spent about an hour on the tour. The cathedral is quite lovely and surprisingly spacious on the inside. It was very 'busy' with lost of different things to look at including a lovely cupola and intricate wood carvings.

Make sure you allow an hour or two and get the audio. The size and features are amazing. Be sure to see the carvings in the Choir. Get tickets across the street from entrance first.

We've visited a lot of churches but this was beyond the usual ancient church with gold and stained glass windows.

The Cathedral of Toledo is one of the largest in Europe. It is gothic in the French style. Its columns and vaults soar. The high altar is quite unique and dedicated to Mary, the mother is Christ. It has four organs, a glorious choir, beautiful cloister and many side chapels. The sculpture throughout is excellent. We used the audio (comes... More

...all magnificent paintings (El Greco, Van Dyke, etc) are standing behind bars with questionable lighting on them. ... the numerous inconsistent items do not help the visitor to feel any definite pulse of this historic edifice ...the electric-candle, lit by inserting a 10 eurocent coin, i don't regard it as a particularly tasteful touch

Amazing piece of architecture, almost too much to take in - the details on every wall, floor and ceiling are incredible. Need a few hours and a guide to be fully appreciated.

Whilst you can enter the Cathedral for a brief view free, it is well worth a small admission charge. It is a quite exceptional Cathedral and breathtaking.
