This church dominates the town square in Amalfi. Its beauty cannot be denied. A gatherting place for tourists and locals alike, we found ourselves sitting in this square and just watching the world go by on several occasions. Get ready for a scene out of St Patricks Cathedral in NYC when you go inside. Beauty worthy of the Vatican. We... More

This is not the church of Santa Maria Maggiore. That church is in Rome. In Amalfi it is the Church of Saint Andrew, or in italian, Duomo San Andrea.

Amalfi is a beautiful little town in the stunning Amalfi coast. The church is situated in the centre of the town square. At the top of the steps of the church there is a great view of the town and hills. The church itself is beautiful and like all Italian churches has great art work and architecture. Well worth a... We arrived from Ravello by car and wandered around the narrow streets. The town itself is clinging to the cliffside. From the carpark in front of the town you got a good up view of the whole town. Upon entering the street where the Church is we just stared at this quite imposing building. The different colours make it very... More

Worth a visit if you're in Amalfi. The front steps are a great place to hang out, eat gelato, and watch the street life below you (just take your time climbing them - there are many!) We stayed in Sorrento, which worked well for us, and took a bus to Amalfi after stopping in Positano. It might be hard to... More

First we took the SITA bus to Positano from Sorrento and then the SITA bus to Amalfi city. It is definitely easier to walk to this church and around the city than it is in Positano. It is a very pretty church to see but didn't spend much time there. It isn't as pretty as the church in my opinion... More

Amalfi is a picturesque little town that is nestled in a fold of land surrounded by some of the most picturesque views in Italy, if not in all of Europe. But as one walks through the twisting streets of small shops and enters the smallish central square, the sight of such a large and spledidly decorated church is indeed awe... More

Probably the best attraction of Amalfi, don't miss it. Very interesting from the historical and architectural point of views.

You shouldn't miss this church, nor do I think you will --- it is right smack in the middle of Amalfi's main shopping area! As you wander up the street from the seaside, the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore appears before you on the right. Nestled among sidewalk cafes and limoncello bars, this beautiful church commands your view. It's sweeping... More
