The Palazzo Massimo alle Terme has collections of Ancient Roman works of art, coins and jewelry belonging to the National Museu of Rome. The late 19th century palace where the museum is located was built by Camillo Pistrucci for Prince Massimiliano Massimo. The Italian Government transformed the palace into a museum in 1981. Since the collections were growing, the Government... More

The ground floor has lots of Greek sculptures, the 1st has lots of Roman copies of Greek sculptures, the 2nd has frescoes and mosaics arranged as they were within various villas. The jaw-dropping room is Villa Livia one of the homes of Augustus' wife. The walls are a garden of roses, pomegranates, iris and other lovely plants.

Although super easy to access from nearby Termini Station, this museum was never crowded during any of my four visits. For non-humanity majors, the sculpture displayed is more accessible than the paintings that fill Italy's many fine galleries. I have taken several friends here and everyone enjoyed it in a way that they didn't enjoy more crowded venues (such as... More

Every work of art in this museum is special, but for me the piece de resistance is the top floor, with the frescoed rooms, especially the "Garden of Livia".Sitting in that room, surrounded by every plant, flower and bird known to the Romans, makes yo feel as if you are, for a moment, transported back to a villa in ancient... First of all don't forget to show on the ticket office your European passport! Maybe you will have a discount! We did it and we paid about the half price! It was the first museum that we visited and I'm glad we did! This is one of the museum in Rome that you have to go!

Statues and frescoes from the Ancient Times : Republican and Empire (200 B.C until 476 A.D.) Please resist the silly temptation to touch the frescoes of 2000 years old. By admiring them at a respectful distance You can worship and show respect to these incredible relics of the past

This is a major museum that is most often bypassed by tourists. In the third week of March 2013, we had the place almost to ourselves. The contents of the museum are well laid out. There's lots of nice marble statuary, recreated rooms from excavated old Roman houses, old coins in the basement, etc There's good stuff in this museum.... More

Exquisite sculptures, mosaics, and murals as well as a valuable history lesson. We missed this museum on our two previous visits to Rome only because we didn't know any better!!!
