If you go to Sunday mass at St. Mark's, you are allowed to enter the door around to the left of the main entrance (in back of the Lions). Mass is one hour and it is extremely moving. Then, you are free to roam about and take photos and visit the gift shop after mass. No waiting in line! Buy...

We did not tour this with a guide, but found it after our gondola ride. It is a HUGE square with the most exquisite architecture. The restaurants around the Square looked upscale and delicious, but we did not eat there as they appeared to have a dress code that we were not prepared for. But no worries, plenty of wonderful...

I went to Mass twice in a row. Once, because I couldn't stop looking at the mosaics and next, to hear the choir and the Mass in Italian. The choir sounded like angels from above. Beautiful and spiritual.
Be sure to go upstairs to the museum. It costs 6 Euro once you climb the stairs, but it it is worth it because you get to go outside on the balcony in front of St. Mark's. We did pay the 4 Euro to go to the treasury and the 2 Euro to go behind the alter. The mosaics walls...

Great example of a church with wonderful mosaics. The museum provides splendid views of the square and the church.

Early in the morning was a great time to get into the basilica without a long wait. The treasure room was definitely worth the three euros. The inside of the basilica was gorgeous
The tile work is exceptional but to me it does not rank up there with many other Basilicas/Cathedrals in Europe and even in Italy.
Get a private tour guide - there are many and average about 65-75 euros an hour - otherwise you will be standing LONG lines! After 5 pm the square empties out.
