The doge palace is a must. Breath taking ceilings and frescos. The highlight for me was the weapon gallery. We were told the secret itinerary tour was booked for the next 2 weeks so i advise booked in advance. Im not sure what we could have missed though. The dungeons were available to us to walk threw.

Wonderful historical building only issue we had was that you could not hire the tour handsets unless you had photo id that could be left as the deposit. We still had a good visit by reading the info boards in each room but as our hotel was a 1/2 hr walk from the square it was a pain not knowing... More

Good to get behind the scenes at the Doge's Palace. We had the scary guide... don't lean on the walls, don't sit down., don't touch! She was very serious and kept saying As I think you already know....most of us probably didn't know but we kept quiet. Despite what it was very interesting to see how the justice system worked,... We booked our visit in advance including the " Itinerari segreti" ( secret itinerary ) tour which is basically the visit of the last two floors of the building where the Great Chancellor and the bourgeoises used to work during the time of the Doge plus a tour in the prison where Casanova was held in captivity. The tour ends... More

The Doge's Palace is absolutely packed with magificent architecture, wonderful works of art and incredible rooms. It's vast though so give yourself plenty of time! Opt for the Secret Itinerary tour if you can - a fascinating insight into how the Doges retained their power and kept the criminal underclass at bay as well as visits to some of the... More

Spectacular rooms of ancient Venice. Don't miss the dungeons, where you get to just after crossing the bridge. Unbelievable!

It is a very historic place with some amazing art and artefacts. There are enough interesting rooms, artworks, ceilings and artefacts to make the entrance fee worth it. I found it, personally, a bit dark, not as in light, but as in the period. It was obviously a very depressing time to live. Don't come here for a feel good... More

The tour of behind the doors is worth the cost despite in our case getting the dredded tour leader who treats her group as though they were prisoners being taken through the prison cells (adds to realism i guess). Honestly everyone was too scarred to do anything otherwise you got spoken to. Her English was passable but really shoudnt be... More
