The building is just fantastic. It is the largest brick dome ever constructed until modern times was the largest in the world. Not sure if it true but our giude told us that some knowledge of how it was built is now lost. We climbed all the way up, the view from the top is uncomparable. There are great Vasari... More

Fabulous marble external walls and dome and other architectural features, free admission, very dark interior, which needs expert lighting designer to do it full credit

The climb up is steep & a bit strenuous. But even my 7 year old was able to make it. The views of the cathedral paintings on the dome itself are gorgeous. And the pictures you can take from the top of the Dome are probably some of the best aerial views.

We were amazed by the breathtaking beauty and size of the duomo. However we did not go inside so i cannot comment about that, but the reason we didn't go in was because there was a sign outside with lots of things that you couldn't do whilst inside, take photos, have drinks, no phones, no vest tops, no skirts, no... This is always the high point of a trip to Firenze, but if you want to go inside, go early in the morning or book tickets through your hotel. It is worth the visit, but can get very crowded.

Found this restaurant using tripadvisor. It's a shot walk from the Duomo. Friendly staff, nice atmosphere, good wine & beer ( homemade "nora" beer was very good). We had millet salad, Spinach salad, ravioli Bolognose and Tagliatelli, which were all excellent.

The Duomo was absolutely spectacular! It is so big and beautiful it almost doesn't look real when you are standing next to it. If you decide to take the walk to the top there are plenty of warnings about the number of steps it takes, but no warnings about the tight space. It is a very narrow and winding climb... More

All I can say is that if you see on one thing in Florence, this is the thing to see. When we came around the corner and got our first glimpse of the Cathedral, we were totally awestruck. The building is a work of art! Spend some time here....you'll be glad you did!

The Duomo is definitely on my top 3 in Italy! The building is massive and with the sunlight it looks like a special effect coming out of a movie! You see it from almost everywhere in the Centro Storico but when you arrive at the Piazza that's when it hits you! The inside is as nice!

This is a must see in Florence. We paid I believe around 10 euro to climb to the top of the Duomo and it's well worth it! The climb is pretty crazy as you are going up about 500 steps and it does get tight and narrow when you get closer to the top. Along the way you can walk... More
