As part of our Tauck culturious tour in October we wandered through olive groves and to this Royal Villa with our guide. It has always been a residence for noble families were were told and the layout of the gardens is just beautiful. Part of the garden inludes an open air theatre and as you stand there in the beautifully... More

We have visited Villa Reale twice now and it's quite fantastic how different the gardens look in different seasons. It is a shame that the house is no longer lived in, or even looked after, but the gardens and other buildings take a good couple of hours to see and the grottoes are certainly worth a longer look. The 7euro... More

Interesting story and beautiful gardens. A stunning place that our tour guide Wanda took us to. We were not able to access the house but the gardens were lovely. We paid about 6 euro to gain entry and spent a couple of hours learning the history and walking the grounds. The sun shone and all looked perfect but you can... More

Quite an extensive property with a variety of gardens within the larger park like setting. Like all but a few of the famous Villas, you cannot get to see inside the actuall main Villa but can wander around the other smaller dwellings on the place. you need to explore all to see all as you can easily miss parts if... The villa and grounds must have been spectacular in their time, but as in the early 20th century, are somewhat neglected with generally poorly kept grounds and decaying buildings. The very high entrance price covers a stroll through the grounds only, not the villa. For say 2 or 3 euros, it would have been worth the visit with its historical... More

Quite a walk from the nearest village, Marlia, especially in the heat (on the day we visited the local bus was only going from Marlia although there is a bus stop right outside of the villa). Only the gardens are accessible to visitors and although the information we saw all stated that it would be a guided tour this was... More

Villa Reale is off the beaten track but worth visit if you like stately gardens. There is a sign for it just off the main road ot of lucca towards esselunga supermarket. There are no signs at the main entrance but you will know that you are there by the magnificent pillars . You must pay at the lodge ,... More

You really want to visit this because it is so difficult to find the ticket office (which is a house with no signs!) We visited on a very rainy day, in fact we were the only people walking around these extensive gardens and gazing at the dilapidated villas within the grounds. We found it very sad that no public money... More

Expensive shops are fun to look around in. Great building facades, surprising Art Deco and Art Nouveau details.
