However you arrive climb the walls immediately to get your bearings and then to move around from one point of interest to the next. Lovely and cool on a summers day, the kids will love it.
This is a great place for a stroll or run. The view is spectacular whether you look at the city or the surrounding hills.

Lucca's walls are a wonderful walk, views into lovely gardens, terracotta roofscapes to gaze at and you can walk the full way round without stopping..... the traffic goes under the wall. There are cafes and loos along the way.
Dogs, kids, runners, strollers, gelatos, coffees, this walk around the Lucca walls is a beautiful experience. The walls are striking and to walk around the top is so peaceful. Get up first thing in the morning before the it starts moving to see the sunrise,....breathtaking
