When I was a child I developed at special attachment to San Francesco. Visiting Assisi more than 60 years after forming that attachments was a very moving experience. This building is unique in that it was built as a spontaneous act of love. When the church was nearly completed the people felt it did not convey their feelings properly so... More

Went to Italy to assist my parents on their pilgrimage to the Vatican. One of the closest pilgrimage site from Rome is the Medieval city of Assisi. The Basilica is the highlight of the trip. To visit and pray at St. Francis' tomb located below the main church is one great experience. Just 5-10 minutes walk is the church of... More

We attended Mass on Sunday at this beautiful but comparatively simple Basilica. It is a very spiritual experience.

Whether you are faithful or not, you cannot help but be awed by the achievement of this amazing structure. 3 churches built one on top of the other, the architecture by itself would be enough to warrant admiration. But the fresco decorations on every wall and surface, by artists such as Giotto, Cimabue, Simone Martini are amazing. The colours are... More

We had only an overnight to enjoy the sublime town of Assisi, and we made the most of our time in the Basilica of Saint Francis. After marveling over the works of Giotto, Cimabue, and other great masters of Italian art, we were able to visit the crypt and the tomb of Saint Francis. The crowning glory of the visit... More

If you we're not exposed to Giotto before, you better go there and will be energized by his ability to show in modern language the life of Italy in Middle Age

It's difficult do explain... Very beautiful and at the same time simply simple. Without all the gold that you probably had seen in Vatican, and full of story and symbolism. More thrilling than any other church in Italy.
