We bought tickets for the Opera for our last night in Switzerland several months ahead of the performance. The Opera House is a rather grand historic building dominanting Bellevue square. We were able to enjoy a fanstatic production and then walk around inside afterward. The inside is a beautifully ornate building in a classical opera house style. We had box... More

We came to Zurich on short notice but were able to get tickets for Falstaff. This was not an opera we would normally have chosen, being one of the less popular ones, but we are really glad that we were able to see it. The building is magnificent and cute at the same time, very Swiss and in good condition.... More

Zurich Opera was world class at least under the management of Mr Pereira and Austrian who sadly left to take over the Salzburger Festspiele in 2012. Not only he attracted many international stars like Cecilia Bartoli (who is now artistic director in Salzburg), but also gathered a lot of sponsor money. If the narrow minded Swiss view on his lifestyle... More

Looking at the full program, sound pretty mainstream. The Balletabend are more eclectic, and the one we saw was very enjoyable (contemporary dance theatre). Nice view from the balconies at the front of the building (though should be better when works outside are done).

We went for a children's version of Die Zaubefloete (the Magic Flute). Costumes & singing were wonderful & the narration for the kids was perfect for introducing children to the world of opera. I was very impressed. My kids & their friends enjoyed it. Note: everything is in German.

I find that the Opera House Zurich it looks the same like Romanian Athenaeum, but is worth seeing. A really nice building just beside the Zurich Lake.

A most pleasant evening watching the short one act opera, Trouble in Tahiti (Bernstein). Highly recommend a visit if you want a chilled night out. You can enjoy a stroll along the water edge (nearby) or go for a meal in the Bel Canto restaurant next door. (Just check out their prices first as it's not cheap!)

We saw La Traviata here with Renee Fleming. It was my first time to this opera house as we live in Basel. No comparison. I love the old world charm of this place and cannot wait to go back as it is situated right near the Lake in Zurich.
