What a gorgeous site. It's what you'd expect from a European cathedral plus a small art show to boot. Go see it.
Although not as grand as some cathedrals, it is a lovely space and the request for quietness was well obeyed. As well as ecclesiastical interest, there are a number of artworks displayed which seem to fit the space very well. The organ is also beautiful & unusual having some horizontal pipes. Well worth a visit.
Beautiful cathedral in Brussels with statues and stained glass windows. It was not crowded and it is not far from city centre. I would say it is average compared to other European cathedrals.
We visited whilst a service was on and sat and listened especially to a lady violinist as the acustics were amazing. We walked around and read with interest the parables on the sculptures and really made us think - especially the widow who gave so much more although giving little in value compared to a rich man - makes you... A stunning Gothic cathedral inside and out! Midway between the Grand Place and the Royal Palace. I did not like the surroundings that much, though: newer, uglier buildings that take away a bit of the cathedral's charm. But a must see, nonetheless.
My husband and I love sightseeing the various churches and cathedrals when we are in Europe - this one did not disappoint. Some of the most vivid and spectacular stained glass I've ever seen coupled with truly majestic architecture. Love, love, love. I would say it is a must see when visiting Brussels.
We weren't planning on stopping at this church, but we just sort of stumbled into it while walking around the city. I'm glad we went inside. The architecture is amazing and the artwork inside is very impressive. It's interesting, when I walk into a big, old cathedral like this I can feel the power the Church had when the time... More
I am a church freak as their architecture is always so amazing and well constracted. I think churches can describe nations very well. You cant compare this place to the one in Milan for exapmle but still worth a visit.
A large and imposing building that was restored and cleaned not that long ago. The stained glass in particular is quite vivid. The atmosphere is peaceful and relaxing in itself. The problem is that it just doesn't compare well with many other cathedrals in Europe.
Church was not crowded, but there was an organ recital or practice going on so it was special to sit and enjoy. It's average when compared to other European cathedrals.
