Truly a special place: not only the sanctuary but also the gardens around and the sights of Braga. You have to take a bus to the base of the hill, since it is located outside Braga, but it is totally worth it. I would reccomend ascending through the funicular and coming down through the stairs, since these are a bit... More

You will find a peaceful place and wonderful views. You won't regret enjoying this place. Braga is a nice nice city, but it's mandatory first to visit this great place.

Calm, romantic and great view over the city. Avoid it on weekends because it's really crowded. If you go there on a spring week day, I'm sure you'll have a good time.

Definitely a must see - it's so beautiful. Walk the steps (pilgrimage) up to the church on top of the hill and enjoy the breathtaking city views of Braga below. The inside of the church is amazing.

This place is just amazing, the view, the sanctuary itself is very impresive, on the top of the hills, there is a beautiful cave and a very nice pond with the boats, excellent place to spend a few hours, must see if you're in Braga.

We climbed from the bus stop from town to the top - don't know how many steps there were but it was well worth taking the steps. There were wonderful view all the way up and several nice places at the top to stop for a drink. We took the funicular down, a bit rickety but it got us back... More

Bus runs every 20 minutes from the town to Bom Jesus. Upon arrival, you can choose to walk up or take a tram climbing the slope for you. We walked. It's not difficult. Believe me. The bonus is to see the art of chapel dotted along the way. A scene in each chapel recalls the way Jesus to death. It... More

We came and visited Bom Jesus do Monte on Palm Sunday, the start of Holy Week for Catholics around the world. So the site was filled with people holding olive branches as they made the trek up and down the staircase. The rain was sprinkling when we arrived here so we chose to ride the elevator up. We had spent... More

Of course it is a place of religious worship. However, except this there is interesting architecture and very nice romantic park (adorable smal caves, ponds, bridges, etc). Definitely must see. Be aware - there is a lot of stairs (not all are accesible for pushchairs and wheelchairs).

We are not religious, but we have enjoyed visiting religious shrines all over the world. We were continuously told that if we're in Braga we must see this. It is a moss-covered series of stairways that lead past uninspiring sculptures in little huts too dark to see into until you reach a smallish chapel less interesting than almost any parish... More
