I love the way you can see the Acropolis from all over Athens. But being with a disabled friend made me realise how hard it is for the non-able-bodied to climb up. A few handrails, or even some helpful volunteers would have made it so much easier for her - and me!

Clean; organised; plenty of signs giving you an explanation of what you are seeing if you don't have a guide; and a major restoration work in progress. Absolutely awesome. Buy a bottle of water before you go through the ticketing area; and you will be happy to know that there are toilets inside the grounds right next to the Museum.... More

You really can't come to Athens and not visit the Acropolis. The site and the buildings are iconic and OK the site is as much building site as Archaeological site but you still can appreciate the impact these structures must have had in antiquity and I guess as a Brit we have to accept some responsibility for the damage wrought... We were approached by a local guide and she was great. It was $50 US for the tour. She told us so many things that we would have missed out on. Not just about the sites but about the city, the people and the culture of Athens. If you are going to spend the cash make sure it goes into... More

The "High City". First sight from the tour bus was breath-taking! We got there before too many people and went right in. When we left there was quite a wait. It was getting hot by the time we left (noon). Would not want to di it in June, July, or August! What an experience to see after reading about it... More

The views from up on the Acropolis over Athens are amazing. You can see the whole city and almost to Piraeus. Well worth the visit.

After two hours in line in direct sun we finally gave up. Over two hundred people in line at 11:30am with very few ticket counters open. the ruins are under repair with cranes and scaffeling.

Steeped in history, you cannot miss it. Read up on your history before you go - it will be that much better.

We were there in May and it was hot and sunny. Make sure you take an umbrella or parasol ( they sell them for 5 euros). You will climb many steps and uneven paths, but the top is worth the agony of getting there. Make sure you have water!! It was very crowded the day we were there and you... More

Of course, nobody misses the Acropolis... you cannot do that if you visit Athens. It is impressive, with its collection of buildings and history. So much has been said that I will only add: visit it early, avoid the very hot hours of the day because you have no shadow there, take water, wear a hat and use comfortable shoes.
