The "High City". First sight from the tour bus was breath-taking! We got there before too many people and went right in. When we left there was quite a wait. The views from up on the Acropolis over Athens are amazing. You can see the whole city and almost to Piraeus. Well worth the visit.

After two hours in line in direct sun we finally gave up. Over two hundred people in line at 11:30am with very few ticket counters open. the ruins are under repair with cranes and scaffeling.

Steeped in history, you cannot miss it. Read up on your history before you go - it will be that much better.

Of course, nobody misses the Acropolis... you cannot do that if you visit Athens. It is impressive, with its collection of buildings and history. So much has been said that I will only add: visit it early, avoid the very hot hours of the day because you have no shadow there, take water, wear a hat and use comfortable shoes.
