Fantastic modern museum showing the ancient sculptures to great effect. A perfect preliminary to visiting The Acropolis
My second visit, and there were noticeably fewer staff than three years ago, which actually improved the experience as last time there seemed more staff (glaring suspiciously) than visitors! Sorry, British Museum, but you really should return the Parthenon Marbles! This building is more than worthy of them. Pity the shop isn't more imaginative in its goods and postcards. There...

The most amazing view of Athens, which surrounds the Acropolis. The Temple of Athena and the Parthenon are on top of Acropolis. This is a MUST SEE when in Athens.
This magnificent museum is a worthy home to the crown jewels of Western civilisation. Setting the Parthenon sculptures in an appropriate context in a place where their original home can still be seen is a masterstroke. The frienze, pediment sculptures and metopes are properly displayed, facing out, rather than the inward facing layout of those in the BM. Additionally, there are...

It took it ages to be completed but is definitely worth it! Will certainly pay a visit again this summer.

Beautiful, interesting.... as I look at the different artifacts I travel back in time in awe of how truely magnificent each and...

This is a Great museum. It opened four years ago and is very well designed. Start with the acropolis friezes and movie on the third floor.
The very modern looking museum is rather new but nicely laid out on three or so floors with some great displays of not only the Acropolis but other finds they discovered when excavating for the new museum. Had nice cafes/restaurants with good quality food at reasonable prices. No photos allowed but the book store has a nice, inexpensive momento booklet...

From the moment you walk over the glass floor and see the excavations underneath to the view of the Parthenon next door to the statues etc. on the third floor to the wonderful restaurant where we had lunch, you know this is very special indeed.
See the acropolis, then learn about it at the museum. We went in mid-May, and it closed at 3PM, so don't wait too long to visit.
