Great way to see the Avon River is to take a punt ride. Good value for a 30 minute trip and shows you a different side of the Botanical Gardens. Very relaxing seeing the plants, trees and wildlife.

Whether you choose to walk or ride in a punt, the Avon is a lovely tranquil place to visit. The Willows hanging over the river reminded me of England.

I walked along the banks of the Avon, and was delighted to see folk still punting on the river. There is a very English feel to the river environs, in spite of the obvious damage to nearby houses. A shady respite with birdlife frequenting the river itself. It retains a peaceful English feel even though the bridges are damaged somewhat... More

We have punted twice on the Avon. Some of the bridges have been damaged by the earthquake but it is still charming and we were able to see more earthquake damage from the boat

We enjoyed the punt in the river with our entire family. Riding in a mokoro in Christchurch was a neat way to see the town. Locals in Christchurch seem to be fitness crazy folk. I would strongly recommend this to anyone visiting this part of the world.

Loved the number of riverside picnic tables - very clean and tidy, and some lovely private niches to relax and enjoy the setting

The water quality was not the best. The river should be cleaner than it was even though its in the middle of the city. otherwise it was a nice walk along the river.

The weather was wonderful - warm sunny days and the scenery blew us away, whereever we went. We walked along the Avon River for several miles and enmjoyed every minute.

Whilst this is a "must do" for the tourist and it is very enjoyable and "English" it is greatly over priced. Using the word river to the Avon is being very charitable. In effect it is no more than a stream. Having said all that, it is still a lovely way to spend thirty minutes and very relaxing. The setting,... More
