This small, but perfectly formed, Chinese Scholars' Garden is a delight and a lovely quiet oasis in the city centre of Dunedin. It is worth watching the video, showing how the garden came into being, its building and stone being created traditionally in Shanghai then transported to Dunedin and re-erected there. A great place to relax and enjoy.

This walled area of Dunedin is a small piece of the stylised Chinese antiquity. We enjoyed wandering around and looking for the koi. They were hiding near the feed point. Nice place to sit and relax

What a beautiful serene place this was. I loved the quiet calm and was amazed that it had been handbuilt in China to fit the footprint in Dunedin. Wow. Lots of interesting things for the children and a tea shop for Mum & Dad.

Pretty, we went in at lunch time as it said there was a cafe that served tea and dumplings - that didn't appear to be there. (well, we saw a microwave but no cafe/ menus/ tables). Quite expensive ($12pp) but an interesting place to find in Dunedin.

The gardens are not huge, but very beautifully done. I thought we would be finished in ten minutes being with small child, but we actually spent about an hour and half. The lady on reception gave our nearly 5yr old a map and he had to locate the eight soft toy snakes hidden around the garden which he loved doing.... More

Advertising said how great this place was, but we were sadly disappointed. Going in we expected a larger garden. My back yard is bigger. Save your time and money. We then visited the Castle gardens and they are absolutely fantastic in comparison

I'm not sure about the value for money, but a beautiful spot to see and atmospheric in any weather. Didn't take long (15-20 minutes) to see. The room where they had costumes for children to try on etc was closed sadly. There was a small tea room that looked enticing but nothing gluten free so we didn't stay. We combined... More

We did not go in as there is a fee and had visited chineese gardens elsewhere again paid for by China. These were quite good and free. Go for the Botanical gardens instead.

The garden is well set out (as it should be as it was done by experts from China). It appears to be modelled on The Garden of the Master of the Nets with a bit of Tiger Hill thrown in. We had a light lunch there in one of the pavilions and a most relaxing time.

Very small, but beautiful. The entrance fee was a bit high for such a small garden, but worth it for a one off visit.
