Address
Neighbourhood: District I / Buda
The historical center to a city with a multifarious and intricate past, Buda has some of the most outstanding buildings in Europe and an enviable natural landscape with stunning views onto the Danube. Centered around the Royal Palace, it provides a glimpse into the golden years of the Austro-Hungarian empire and the lives led by the aristocracy at the time. Matthias Church, beside the palace, hosted many events attended by the royal family and was the chosen place for the coronation of Franz Josef, one of the Hungarian Habsburg kings. Having admired the palace and the church, a visit to Buda will be unforgettable by the stunning and memorable panorama over Pest offered by the seven towered Fishermen’s Bastion.

    A must see in Budapest
Really enjoyed our visit here. Breathtaking views and ability to access a slightly higher platform for even better views for a small fee. Quite high up, we walked it but there are casts tour buses and also escalators available

    enjoyable experience!
Our children loved exploring the castle-like structure and running up and down the stairs. The seven towers and intricate architecture provided plenty of opportunities for them to imagine they were knights and princesses in a fairy tale. Overall, it was a memorable and enjoyable experience for our family. We highly recommend it to anyone visiting Budapest, especially those with children who love history and exploring unique architecture.

    Worth a visit!
Great views! It wasn’t too crowded either. We took the number 16 bus up from outside the metro (go up the little outside escalator and cross the road). Worth noting that the toilets are 250hof but the Starbucks gave us a warm welcome, a delicious coffee, a sort of view and a free wee!

    An iconic place in Budapest.
With breathtaking views and a great history, Fisherman's bastion is probably the most iconic landmark in Budapest. It is a stunning Romanesque piece of architecture that has a long terrace with seven towers which overlooks the Danube river and the Pest side. You now have to pay to enter the ramparts to get a view over the city and river which I find is a bit harsh on the tourists. When we went, it was free access so that was good. At the top of the bastion is a café so you cant get in there without having a coffee or drink. This is probably the best viewing area. Go in have a coffee and get the best view. Its also stunning when viewed at night so make sure you go up at night to get a stunning view.

A nice place to visit with your family
An amazing place with excellent view of Budapest. The church is really glorious. You can walk around, take pictures, drink coffee, eat a nice meal and finally visit the Buda’s Labyrinth.

    Stunning City Views
The last time I was here, there was no ticket to walk the ramparts. Those days are over. Now, the upper level is ticketed and the lower level is free which means it is always swamped with people trying to get photos which give the appearance that they are all alone. (I did it too!) The views are great and the intricate white stone constructions are really beautiful. Although it was a bit annoying to no longer have easy and free access to the places I once went, it was still worth going.

    Magical at night!
Enjoyed views of Fisherman's Bastion (Halászbástya) during a visit to Budapest in early March 2023. Stunning historical landmark. Really beautiful at all parts of the day but it seems magical at night. Perfect spot to enjoy views the Hungarian Parliament Building, the river Danube, sunrise and sunset.

    Stunning views.
Such a beautiful place to visit, with amazing views. A selection of eateries ensure you won't go hungry. We only did the views, not the inside the magnificent looking church. Beware the young girl with the white doves. She will use your phone to take photos of her white doves, then ask for 10,000 huf, which we refused to pay. All in Ll though, an enjoyable visit.

    Budapest from Above
The bastion is perched high on a hill overlooking Budapest - the view is spectacular. The bastion contains an old city with medieval buildings, cobble stone streets and a beautiful church. There is an entry fee for the church as well as parking.

Good views, but at a cost
This is a viewpoint from Buda towards Pest and the views are really good. Only a part of the lookout was open on the day of our visit. Charge of HUF2400 per person is applied, which is a bit pricey as you can get similar views for free elsewhere along the castle area

Come here on a sunny day. There are beautiful views across the city. You don't need to pay to go up on the walls. Just walk around the area.

The remake of these walls gives everyone the feel of what the originals looked like. The important thing is what they represented. Fisherman's Bastion is one of the best known monuments in Budapest, located near the Buda Castle. Just like any monument, it is to show or remind us what it symbolized. The Fisherman’s Bastion was built between 1895 and 1902 as part of the series of developments that were to celebrate the 1000th birthday of the Hungarian state. The bastion was built as a viewing terrace with lookout towers on the base of a stretch of the castle walls (from the 17-18th century). Rather than building sturdy thick stone walls, the intention was to present the locals with a communal panorama terrace, as the Buda Castle was no longer considered to be a military place. The statue of St Stephen and the beautiful Cathedral of St Mathias next to the walls remind us of the beauty of this place.

We explored Fisherman's Bastion, taking in the fortress observation towers and admiring the stunning architecture. We then enjoyed a light meal at the cafe, taking in the breathtaking city views.

Well worth walking across the bridge to come and see the views and history across the water to the castle and other history that awaits. Would definitely recommend doing.

Our second time in Budapest after arriving at the end of our river cruise and flying out later the same afternoon, so we quickly covered some old ground.
Fisherman Bastion showcases fantastic views of this beautiful city on the other side of Danube, including Hungary's Parliament Buildings and bridges. From the opposite side of the river of course, you are treated to amazing views of the turrets and white stone walls. The entire area is steeped in history with lots of things to see and wander.

Stunning views of Budapest and the Danube, well worth the walk or take the venicular. It can get very crowded, so go early if possible.

Beautiful architecture and stunning view, but unfortunately a bit crowded. Luckily it isn't spoiled by street vendors.
