If you're going to do the elephant experience Pantara is throne to choose. You will learn so much about the loss of the elephant population in Thailand as well as how to keep the elephants healthy. From the beginning you will be told you are there to help work so be prepared. And bring a change of clothes. This is... More

I was very aware of all the elephant attractions and farms in Chiang Mai and the potential for exploiting these beautiful animals by pouring money into elephant farms that poorly treat their elephants. I did a lot of research and while Patara was the "most expensive" (approximately $180 AUS Dollars) it was well worth every dollar spent. There were no... More

The whole day was a absolute joy. The care for the elephants is great. We didn't want to end up at some circus show not taking good care of the animals. This is definetly not the case at Patara. Everyone will get their own elephant to take care of for that day. This mean you also get your own personal... More

We went to Patara Elephant Farm on May 6th 2013, after initially contacting Pat (The owner) several months before this regarding the suitability of the attraction for someone Disabled, a Wheelchair user, Well we had a fantastic Day, and both thoroughly enjoyed it, the Team were very knowledgeable and very friendly, My Husband was very well looked after by an... Wow, this was one of the best experiences I have ever had! Patara Elephant Farm was just amazing. They have a wonderful story (they save elephants from bad situations and take them to the farm to rehabilitate). In addition, they do not make the elephants do any silly tricks or hurt them in any way. Also great was the small... More

Make friends with the elephants and experience an amazing day with them. You get to feed them, wash them, ride on their backs and brush them off in the river at the waterfall. Especially the ride through the forrest is a thrill, you really have to let go of your fears and trust these giant animals which tread very carefully... More

This was a very educational, hands on experience. We spent the whole day with our elephants that were hand picked for us. We had to learn to feed them, bathe them and how to give commands. Patara is trying to maintain their elephants not as circus shows but educate the visitors to their history, what is happening in Thailand to... More

A real "hands on" day with the elephants. Prepare to really work and take care of your elephant. An unforgettable experience that may have been the highlight of our entire 3 week asian trip.

It was really special to be able to spend a day with an elephant. I now know that elephants sweat through their toes, what the 6 major health indicators are and how to walk one around and make it do (mostly!) what you want. It was also amazing to ride one bare-back and to get on and off via the... More

If you do anything in Chiang Mai, make sure that you become an Elephant Owner for a Day and visit Patara Elephant Farm. This is set up specifically to bred elephants. You literally do the everyday things that the caretaker would do, health check, feeding, washing, scrubbing, riding (bareback) through the forest to the river. What a great experience, it's... More
