The palace is not really that special. There are hundreds of better places to see in China and on the basic ticket you get to see very little. The summer palace should be towards the bottom of your bucket list for Beijing. While it is OK, it is crowded with Chinese tour groups and nothing exceptional. Save your money and... More

The vast palace, pagodas, grounds and lake are simply stunning. Allow at least half a day to see everything. Some of the terrain is quite steep (lots of steps). It does get very crowded so suggest an early morning start. The views across the lake back into Beiking city are fabulous. We took a guide who was touting for business... More

So much to see with exquisite buildings and great views. If you want to avoid climbing lots of steep staircases start at the Suzhou Street North gate. There are still steps but mostly downhill and you start with spectacular views towards Beijing. Easily reached via the metro.that cost 2 Yuan as opposed to 75 if taking a taxi from central... More

There's a Palace (I think, cant remember), its a park with a lake that's looks much like Hyde park, but you have to pay to see it all. Only if you have a lot of time on your hands but don't do it during public holidays ..... Don't go to China during public holidays!

The garden, the lake, and the bridges are all beautiful. It's the garden of the Qing Empire, buildt for the birthday of one empire's mother. The most important scene of the Summer Palace is the lake and mountain. The lake is shaped as a peach, symbols the longerity of the empire's mother's life.

It was a Saturday visit. They have a board that lists the estimated number of visitors, and on that day it was 51,000. That is a lot of people! Every place in Beijing is busy, but the Summer Palace seemed to top that. That said, the setting and grounds are beautiful and distinctive. It was a smoggy day in Beijing... More
