I didn't realise this before I was in Egypt, but to get to Abu Simbel you need to travel in a police convoy, and that convoy leaves at approximately 3:30am. The road down there is absolutely terrible for trying to sleep - take a pillow if you can. I took a rolled-up towel from my cruise ship and it wasn't... More

The Temple is stunning in its size and antiquity, and well worth the trip. There is quite a long walk from the car park to the Temples along a hot, bumpy pathway which some of the older, less able-bodied members of our party found trying. You can take photos outside but not inside the actual temples. This excursion was an... More

It´s a bit hard to tell what is more impressing. The fact that the temple is basically more than 3 milennia old (imagine your home country at this time) The sheer size and the fact it was mostly build simply to impress The movement of the temple in the 20th century Or maybe it is all of this together. Anyway... More

How did they move this? I cannot get my head around the feat of engineering required to move this monument. It is a glorious, awe inspiring temple that is on such a grand scale that you really have to see it to believe it. The views out to the Nile are stunning. I think I will come back and sail... More

I don't know what's more impressive, the monument itself or the international effort that saved it from the waters of Lake Nassar. Either way, it's an unbelievable place. The scale of the temples is hard to believe, and there are two of them, not just one. My hat is off to the engineers who figured out how to move it.... More

Loved Abu simbel so much. We had booked flights there, but the day before we were told the flight was cancelled (no real reason given) so we had to get up early for a trip (convoy of buses - I think it took about 3 - 3 1/2 hours) but it was so worth the trip. It was great travelling... More

This has to be one of the most remarkable pieces of engineering in the world! Saved from the rising waters of Lake Nasar by a collective effort of many countries this monument is amazing. The sheer scale of the facade blows you away! When viewed from a distance can you appreciate the scale of the temple dedicated to Ramases 2.... More

I am an Egyptian tour guide.I take my groups to all Egyptian sites.my favourite site is Abu Simbel. It`s a great temple totally cut-out of a mountain with all its elements such as the huge statues of Ramessis II standing on the temple front side, large inner courts, massive pillars and elaborate detailed scenes.Abu Simbel was dismantled and reconstructed on a higher... A 3.30am start from Aswan made us wonder if this was going to be worth it but ..... This place is amazing! Your first glimpse of this enormous temple literally takes your breath away. Its a mean feat of engineering too as the temple has been moved piece by piece since the building of the High Dam at Aswan. You... More

I was speachless when I walked around the corner and the temple was there in front of me. I am still in total awe! Of all the places I wanted to visit in Egypt, this was on the top of my wish. It is certainly a very speacial place.
