This is one of the oldest and biggest and a must visit for a history buff. The sound and light show is wonderful as well.
the largest of western temple complex with fantastic panel work of hindu god and goddess. also here one can see erotic relief work. the temple looks excellent from both near and far.
Saw this as part of a full day of temple visits starting with the main temple complex before moving to the western group. This is a fantastic large temple. Fortunately I had a good guide for the day who gave me a lot of great information about the temple and the history of the area.
This temple + the Lakshmana temple were the two highlights in the western group of temples. Definitely use an audio guide or hire a good guide. See my comments in the general review for Khajuraho temples for recommendation of a guide. We spent 3.5 hours in the western temple enclosure-- -and could have stayed longer! Incredible beauty from 1,100 years... More
The famous Kandariya Mahadev what else needs to be said? Second only to the shiv temple in Ellora in the whole world in my opinion; and that because it is re assembled and not an original structure otherwise the exquisite carvings would surpass the Ellora temple as well.
Nothing in world can be compared to it, except Konark to some extent. It is better to read serious books for its grand and magnanimity. One must go there and see every smallest stone, carvings and every thing, from near and from far. Its great by all standards and from every aspect from either from engineering or from artistic understanding.
This I think is the latest build of the 4 temples that are in this Western Group of temples. It is beautifully done. The dome cascades into the main dome giving a feel of ascending mountains. If you have an artistic streak, must view the temples from three sides to appreciate the temples build.
Located at Western group of temple. Largest temple in Khajuraho. it is one of the best temple in Khajuraho. Inside the temple is a marble linga depict Shiva though puja is not being performed here.
This is an inspired art work - few other temples or other architectural examples stand shoulder to shoulder with Kandariya Mahadev. Its mighty magnificent and a celebration of imagination. If you haven't seen this, you haven't seen Khajuraho, you haven't seen India!
