We were on a cruise and called in here, sadly only for a day and a night. I could spend a month in St Petersburg it is so interesting and there is so much to see. We were lucky enough to go to a private party viewing of the Hermitage in the evening, when it was closed to others. We... More

This is my favorite museum as it contains quite a variety of stuff to see. It is rather crowded, so be patient as you walk around. Plan 2-3 hours minimal. You could spend days if you are a real museum fan.

Save time to see it all. The French Impressionism collection is very good. This has to be the very first visit in S. Petersburg while you are still in a good shape.

The hermitage is the best museum that I have ever seen... even if it is not so well organised : for example the map that they give it's not good...inspite of this the collection is amazing... Some advices: 1Before the visit organised your plan: choose what you interest most because it isn't possible see all the things. 2 if you... More

This is a don't miss if you have any interest at all in art. There are fabulous, extensive collections of the Masters (an entire hall of Rembrandts, for example, and three rooms of Picasso) and a wonderful complement of Impressionists. Like the Louvre, it can easily take more than a day just to walk through it. We bought a two-day... More

Not sure what all the hype is about. Yes it has lots of paintings. Some interesting many very dark. Lots of queues and having to dodge people taking photos of pictures and the like Buy a guide book - they have much better pictures!

The building and decoration are wonderful, but sadly too much restored and missing artifacts due to WW2 and Revolution. Needs time to wander at your own pace.

1 day is not going to do it, get a two day ticket on the net and avoid congestion for tickets. Packed full of the very best art. You'll want to take some time

I really enjoyed Russian history at school and this was a real treat for me. I had a spare morning and was thrilled to see the Winter Palace. It won't be everybody's cup of tea but it was mine.

The state rooms are fantastical - and the paintings brilliant. Beware the cafe - but you are rather stuck as if you leave the Hermitage for something to eat you are not allowed back in, so you have to put up with the gastly cafe.
