This is a great city park. There are lots of paths, one around the lake. There are also acres of green spaces and open areas. Lots of picnic places. This is without a doubt, one of the things that makes Austin, Austin. I'm a native Austinite, so I have gone there for all kinds of occasions through the years. Plan before you head out to see what's happening in the area. During events, it's best to take the bus and skip the event-created-parking hassle.
Little kids will love to ride the tiny train! It goes on a 20 minute or so loop around the park. You may have to wait to catch the train, but there's a great playscape where you get on, so there's plenty for the little ones to do.
