A lovely old buildding but a poor cafeteria area. You can watch the legislature working but be prepared to be bored !

The marble mined up at Marble Falls, Texas is really nice. A huge capital building with a nice giftshop and cafe. The parking nearby is fairly priced unlike many lots in this really overcrowded city. A very nice park area with mature trees makes for nice shade when it's 100+ degrees out and humid. All the service people inside were most...

Stayed with friends in Austin, and they brought us on a tour of the State Capital. For a UK Citizen I learnt so much about the lone star state, and was blown away by the building and its grounds. We went on an escorted tour and the guide was so informative, I didn't expect to enjoy it so much.

I have previously toured the Capitol during the day, but on this trip to Austin, my husband and I visited the grounds at night. We were able to get a parking spot in front of the building. We inserted four quarters into the meter and strolled around the grounds for an hour.
There are several monuments on the grounds. Many...

Located on downtown Austin...full of Texas state history...grounds are well kept...Gov's Mansion is in walking distance from the Capitol...Congress Avenue starts or ends in front of the Capitol. Worth taking the guided tour.
Loved the Capitol, the grounds were amazing, all the flowers blooming, rose garden was beautiful, then the capitol itself. Just the greatest tour, our tour guide was so nice. No complaints. We think we will come again in the fall.
If you come to visit Austin, this is a must! Beautiful building, nice garden surronding it and in a great location, so after you visited you can go visit UT or head south towards South Congress.
I was totally overwhelmed with the magnificence of the building from inside. The open access to all parts while the offices were functional was such a unique experience. Worth visiting if you are in the neighborhood.
I use to work here and of course love this great building and all it stands for. The remodeling done in the 90s (maybe) is beautiful. Tip: the main entrance is South facing (nod to our Texas heritage). Stop just inside and take a tour. They are free.
The FREE tour at the Texas State Capitol is awesome. My guide was very knowledgeable and witty. Ask for "Aaron" as he mentions loads of small facts that other guides may not think are as important. Listening to him, certainly mad me proud to be a Texan...and I'm not from there! :-) Wonderful!!!
