You can't help but say "wow" when entering the Driskill. I prefer to have a drink rather than a meal or to stay overnight because the experience is in the lobby and grill/bar. It is definitely worth a stop.

As an Austin local, I adore this hotel! I have had the pleasure of staying here a few times and each time I absolutely loved everything about it. The rooms are beautiful, the beds are very comfortable, and the atmosphere is lovely. And I absolutely love the 1886 cafe for breakfast or brunch.
Attended a wedding rehearsal dinner and have bee to several association meetings here over the years. One of the oldest hotels in Austin but also one of the best. It was built 2 years before the state capitol and continues to be one of the best hospitality venues in the state.
We stopped into The Driskill for a drink before dinner. I was immediately impressed by how grand the lobby was. We headed to the bar and settled into a couch directly in front of the small stage where local solo acts performed. We enjoyed our drink and the service was wonderful until the artist nearly begged the audience for tips....

We were going for a late breakfast and decided on ice cream. I had an amazing home made ice cream sandwich. My wife had a spectacular banana split. We returned for happy hour and enjoyed the flatbread and quesadillas. Great environment too!
In the center of all the restaurants and fun. It is beautiful and filled with history. We did not stay there, but next time in Austin, we will!
I first stayed here while in high school and have stayed many times since then. right on 6th street, which could be good or not depending on the purpose of your trip. service is tops.
Honestly, I only stayed here because of the Guy Clark song "Ramblin' Jack and Mahan," which references "stayin' up all night at the Driskill Hotel." I did enough research to learn the history of the place and that it was a nicer hotel. I looked forward to staying there, but I really didn't have any expectations.
The Driskill compares favorably...

Gorgeous olde worlde hotel.. wish I had more time to explore, stay, learn about the beginning of the romance of LBJ and Lady Bird...
The food and service was very good. We went later in the afternoon, so was less crowded. Food was excellent, along with service. Toured the lobby afterwards. Beautiful and worth while seeing.
