I think one should try this at least once. I traveled on this train twice once coming back from Shimla and again going to Shimla. This is obviously not the fastest mode for commutation but you will enjoy the scenic beauty and around 100 tunnels in your journey. Last time when we were going to Shimla it took around 8... More

Our journey from Kalka to Shimla was delayed 3 hours waiting for the Delhi Express so we went by minibus. Our agent booked us a 45 minute journey next day down from Shimla which gave us a good taste of the full trip. Worth considering doing that if you dont have a lot of time anyway.

The British Architecture is at full view. I beleive this is Indian Railways only pride . Beautiful Scenery on display as the train travels at the speed of the snail. All they need is a bit of rewamp in the management.

An experience not to be. Issued, great to mix with the locals, scenery is absolutely stunning! We only went halfway though as it is an arduous journey

I travelled on the Kalka-Shimla toy train 4 years ago (but from Shimla to Kalka) and found it so much fun, finally managed to talk my husband into coming along! Fabulous journey, through the wonderful countryside, seeing the different flora and fauna as you ascend/descend, trying to anticipate the tunnels and bridges to get some nice photos, all good fun!... The scenery was good but it became too boring and tiring towards the end. The toy train was traveling at 15miles/hour.

It was a great way to see the gorgeous scenery, but if you are in the Himalayan Queen train, be aware that the seats feel a bit hard after the first 3 or 4 hours! Some other trains seemed to have softer seats. Still, definitely worth doing - a historic railway with great views, and on the Himalayan Queen you... More

Took the railway for an hour just to experience the ride having heard much about the 100+ tunnels. The tunnels were not much of an excitment (except for the first few which gets boring after a while). The view was spectacular. I suggest a maximum of 2 hours would be sufficient to experience and appreciate the scenic view of the... More

Don't go till the end. It took 6 hours for a 2 hour journey. No food available, you have to get food from stations. If necessary to travel in this train, just pack food for all of you.
