The Iron Horse Trail (named for the trains that plied this strip of land) is a fantastic miles-long trail for hiking and/or biking that goes for miles through many little cities in Alameda and Contra Costa county. The ride or hike along the old railroad right-of-way can be done at whatever pace you want to set for yourself and many... More

It is always nice to see so many people exercising on the trail or just walking their dogs. For the most part, I feel... More

My experience on the Iron Horse Trail was limited to the Walnut Creek area. The trail was super clean and the sights quite varied. If you ride to the BART in Walnut Creek take some time to get off the path and look at the pedestrian bridge that crosses Treat Blvd. It is a real "treat" for the eyes. Pun... More

This is a terrific trail that runs from Dublin to Walnut Creek. The best part is that it goes near the Danville downtown area for a quick coffee.

Iron Horse Trail is great for walking, running, roller blading, cycling. I enjoy starting by Peet's Coffee in Danville so I can have a coffee after my work out.

Wonderful bike/walking trail that doesn't parallel the main roads. It can be busy at times on the weekends. A wonderful way to get around or enjoy some exercise. The trail is wide and not hemmed in by houses. The trail does cross roads, but there are signals or signs to give right-of-way to the trail users.

This five mile section offers a variety of sights and access points to shopping/food. You can actually walk or ride your bike from the Bart in Dublin to the trail with only a short while along the road. Path is wide and generally busy on the weekends and day times (can be especially busy around school starting and ending time... More

Great bike ride trail from Pleasanton to Concord. Really pretty through Danville and Alamo. Great for walking the dog or pushing the stroller too.

It's very secure, as it's so well-traveled. Paved and clean it goes a distance and connects different communities. Esp. great on a bike. Sunday mornings can be packed so be aware of that. Every community should have such a trail!
