I got to visit the Observatory as part of a day tour and it was one of the highlights. The views are breath-taking - across the city and to the Hollywood sign. The Observatory itself contains a wonderful collection of educational displays. Best of all it is all completely free as directed by Griffith Griffith himself.

Driving up the hill you would not expect to have nestled up further a great parking area that is next to the Observatory. It was easy to access, with loads of photo view opportunities. Inside, outside, up the stairs and down the stairs. There really is an amazing wealth of information in this hidden gem. (I would say). Inside you... More

We went the Griffith in the morning in December. The views were great. We saw LA and Hollywood sign from the observatory. The parking lot was big but a parking space could be difficult to find. I think it is better to go on the daytime unless you like to the light of LA.

The Griffith Observatory is a definite must-see while in LA. If nothing else, the view of the city from the observatory is breathtaking (especially from the roof of the building). During the day, you can see the Hollywood sign clearly in the hills. At night, the city lights are laid out before you. The observatory itself is a great place... More

It is a great view of Los Angeles and of course the Hollywood sign. You can get great pictures when it is not too gloomy. On clear days you can see even the ocean from Sta Monica beach.

Hadn't been here since I was a child and I was impressed by the renovations. Always a good place to see a celestial show (tickets purchased separately) or to view the other exhibits for free. Food is pretty costly so eat up beforehand. Parking can get crowded so prepare to walk a ways uphill. Best times are weekday evenings-less crowded

The Griffith Observatory is a popular place, particularly on weekends. It's a great Art Deco building with a planetarium and interesting exhibits. It also has spectacular views of the city and it's free. There is a DASH shuttle bus for 50 cents that leaves from the Vermont Sunset red line metro station. It's easy to park in the neighborhood on... More

We drove up around 7pm and got to watch the sun set. The only bad thing was it was smoggy - of course that's something we can't control. We saw one of the shows which was excellent! The narrator was outstanding! Don't miss the telescope and the exhibits either - we wished we had arrived earlier as there's so much... More
