If you are already stopping by the Old Fisherman's Wharf, this little area was interesting to check out with a couple of California's oldest buildings and theatre in the middle of a business park. The buildings dated back to the 1840s and share some information
Very pleasant, nice gardens, near wharf. There is a brief overview of Monterey's history, but it is mostly a pleasant place to stroll.
Found this by accident while visiting Monterey. Had heard about it and wanted to do it. Started with an audio cell phone tour, and then just started getting out of the car and walking into the building, talking with the docents, and walking the trail. Good printed materials and maps. This groupings of museums tell the story of Monterey. We enjoyed the ones we were able to visit, but some are not open midweek. Please check before you go. We were fortunate to meet the landscaper/gardener who told us the history of the plantings; and a docent who took us through the buildings and talked about the history of Monterrey. It's always a good idea to talk to knowledgeable people!
