Old Sacramento features the wooden sidewalks and old building as one might expect. There are also many good places to eat as well as the terrific Railroad Museum. But, the t-shirt shops, candy shops and other tourist trap stores take away from what might otherwise be a very cool place to visit.

Old Sac is too tourist-y and full of junk shops. There are some nice restaurants worth going to, but not much else.

An interesting area, very touristy, and not necessarily worth dodging the panhandlers in downtown Sacramento to get to.

If you go there with kids, don't miss the school museum, it's great (and free). But be aware of all the bafflegap shops round... your kids will make you mad!

Old Sacramento is about 3 square blocks down by the river. It is packed with stores, eateries and gift shops. The city was rebuilt after a devastating flood and is now about 6 feet higher than the original. There are tours that will take you on an underground inspection. Interesting place to stroll around on a hot day while enjoying... More

If you like history and enjoy walking around, this is the place to see. They have fun shops to browse in and good food to eat when we got tired.

We visited on our us road trip as we was stopping at nearby Vacaville It was nice to have a less frantic and hectic day we enjoyed strolling round old town visiting the various different shops and just sat near the waters edge and watched the world go by It recharged our batteries and was nice to be able to... Many large and small venues for listening to a variety of excellent bands and singing groups playing and singing traditional jazz and zydeco.

It's sad that the merchants of old Sacramento have apparently banded together and decided to close down over a potentially business packed weekend. Between the music festival and the Jehovah's witness convention there are lots of people wandering and the shops were either closed completely or closed very early.

I liked the preservation of history. The Sacramento Southern Train ride was Excellent. We had a great chat with Conductor John Stafford - the train is run totally by trained volunteers. It takes 35 volunteers a day to run the train. Kudos to Sacramento.
