We took first timers to Colorado here. They were in awe! Views of the high mountains AND the plains, right on the edge of Boulder. Many places to pull off (permit required for non-residents); a great place to go after NCAR...keep driving and go to Gross Reservoir, Nederland, etc.
This is a very scenic drive. It isn't for those who don't like driving on mountain roads, of course, but it isn't that long. The views are worth it. Watch out for bikes grinding up and tearing down! 37 years ago my husband and I were married on Flagstaff Mountain, just above where the Flagstaff House is. The views are spectacular!
So beautiful! Hiking, pretty views, my favorite thing to do is just drive up Baseline Road at night and a few minutes later you're looking out over Boulder.
drive up flagstaff and park at a turn out or parking area for some of the best panoramic views of the city. plenty of hiking trails cross flagstaff road as well as bouldering spots. if you drive to the end you'll see one of Denver's water reservoirs, a great place to picnic or fish
