Visiting our daughter, a student at nearby Ave Maria University, I noted the existence of this nature preserve, and decided we'd visit it. It was well worth it. The day we went was warm, but not blistering hot. It's still the dry season, so the swamp, which is largely rain-fed, was dried out, except for occasional pools. The boardwalk through... More

This is great place to come to see Florida as it should be, serene. An awesome place for great photographs of nature and wildlife. You must go early in the AM and walk slowly with minimal sound, to catch the most wildlife. Going early in the AM, avoids children and those tourists that want to hurry through, all of which... More

People come for the boardwalk excursion through several habitat zones to an ancient cypress woods surrounding "Lettuce Lake." Yes, you will see alligators at the lake - we saw several large gators and many juvenile, smaller gators, still with their white-striped tail. We also saw a pair of young barred owls, a night heron, and many more spectacular birds. There... More

This place is great. I love to take long walks so the boardwalk runs about 2 1/2 miles through a swamp and it's a great walk. Depending on the day you might see various animals, reptiles and birds. I like the volunteers that are throughout the boardwalk pointing things out. You'll also find cute little signs too for those people... More

This is a wonderful attraction near Naples, which allows on to "safely" walk through an otherwise inaccessible environment. There were always gators and fabulous birds all around you, but you do have to look for some of these because after all, this is not a zoo! You can learn a lot if you listen to the guides. This is the... More

Unfortunately, we didn’t see much since there is a severe drought, but at least we gave to a good cause - the Audubon Society. We did see a raccoon, a couple alligators and some deer. We heard a few birds but didn’t see but one. It is a nice 2.5 mile walk on a well maintained boardwalk. It’s very peaceful... More

This scenic Sanctuary not only gives glimpses of herons, storks, woodpeckers, and any number of egrets, there are the young alligators browsing in the sun. It is a painless way to get your exercise, AND lift your spirits. Walking the boardwalk out over the grasslands, and the swampy areas, with many places to just sit and be serene, is a... More

Went to visit swamp yesterday. Amazing trees got to see some beautifull butterflies and saw a red bellied woodpecker and a red shouldered hawk. Also one alligator mum has 12 babys. Only downside was the black flies on some parts of the boardwalk there is a sign in reception saying that they are a problem at the moment as they... More

A good and easy wander through a number of typical S Florida habitats. Staff knowledgeable and friendly. Try to get there first thing or last thing for the best wildlife viewing.

What a jewel of a place. Incredible length of boardwalk through the swamp for a great break from visiting beaches. I especially liked the historical references that told the story of society ladies from early last century that created a demand for the slaughter of birds for their hat feathers. The feather hunters camped nearby and mercilessly killed every bird... More
