beautiful place for a walk although a little surprised there was a charge on a cold slightly rainy day...
It is always interesting to see the paths of the tide going in and out, which is often different each year. We love the expansiveness of the beach and being able to see 2 lighthouses from on top of the hills.
If you are in the area you MUST visit Popham Beach State Park! It's the best beach I've been to in Maine. It's huge with lots of sand, a sandbar (low tide) that lets you walk to rock island and climb all over it to enjoy the view and watch the wildlife. It is awesome! And worth the cost to... More
Any one who has a chance to visit Popham Beach should. We live in Maine and still come back each and every year to visit this wonderful site. One of the best State Parks you will ever be able to see and enjoy!
Arrived one foggy morning at low tide and never saw the ocean! We could hear it and walked for a while but since it was our first visit we returned with out locating it. Still it was interesting and I would definitely go back as we had limited time. Nice bathroom/bath house. No lifeguards as the season was over.
Check the tides before you visit. When the tide is low you can walk to the small offshore island. Wonderful! The facilities are clean. Also fun tidepools for little kids.
We are from Jersey and are used to sandy beaches you can swim in. People said they didn't think the kids would be in the water much in Maine but they were wrong! We love this state park beach. It goes on for a couple of miles; it has newly built bath houses; there are professional life guards; and the tide really makes the day interesting with the ever changing beach landscape; the dunes are beautiful; and there is ample parking.
Clean sand as far as you can see, uncrowded, NO touristy traps, nice restrooms and showers, rocky islands accessible at low tide, tidal pools, lifeguards, lovely sand patterns. What's not to like. Worth the trip. Bring everything you need, take our what you bring in.
