With 20,000 square feet of gallery space and over 10,000 works in the collection, there is always something new on view at the Farnsworth. The museum has one of the nation's largest collections of works by sculptor Louise Nevelson. Its Wyeth Center features works of Andrew, N.C. and Jamie Wyeth. The Farnsworth's library is also housed in its Rockland, ME, campus. Two historic buildings, the Farnsworth Homestead and the Olson House, and Julia's Gallery for Young Artists complete the museum complex. « less

Our first stop was at the converted Methodist Church that is now part of the Farnsworth. The exterior is nothing to "write home about" but the interior is spacious with interesting and pleasing architectural additions. A few steps away is the larger Farnsworth - a peaceful way to spend the morning or afternoon.

We were pleasantly surprised this weekend to discover the Farnsworth Art Museum when we were visiting Rockland, Maine. It is a wonderful place. Two hours goes by quickly and you have seen some wonderful examples of American art. I highly recommend a visit to this museum. It is right on the Main street which also has some nice art galleries,... More

The small town of Rockland , ME is the home of an unbelievable treasure trove of art! If you are a fan of the Wyeth family of artists, this museum cannot be missed. Look up the various artists that are on display who include, not only the Wyeths but, Robert Indiana, and Louise Nevelson. I'm going to point out that... More

We live in Maine for five months of the year and are always amazed by all this museum offers. In addition to the galleries of Wyeth works (as well as other noted artists--Benson, Nevelson come immediately to mind), the musuem offers tours and lectures which are always worth attending. Last summer we heard several experts speak on various aspects of... More

If you are a Wyeth family fan, this is the Holy Grail! Also a gallery of Louise Nevelson's work. A very friendly staff was helpful and knowledgeable.

Living in Maine, our family makes regular seasonal visits to this wonderful art museum venue. The temporary exhibits change fairly regularly and are always top-notch. Already on display this season is a diverse display of American folk art and a room of small art works by named American artists. Soon a large collection of N,C,Wyeth works will be featured, as... We happened upon this lovely place during a business trip. My husband and I both really enjoy Andrew Wyeth's art so this was a happy day. My boys also greatly enjoyed this small but very nice museum. The library also makes you want to grab a book and sit by the fire.

Visited Rockland in Sept 2011 for our son's wedding (Camden state park, at castle torrent overlooking the bay). This museum is fantastic and a total unexpected gem in such a small community. The entire town is fantastic!

Well. This is the nerve center of Planet Wyeth, where all things Wyeth show up. Andrew was superb, but Jamie just can't paint. I wouldn't have a Jamie on the wall, but they do here--and it's the only show in town. Of course, the real landscapes are offshore, where the Wyeth Tribe makes its home, on the gently cresting green... More
